Skrolla is not a tax adviser

Skrolla is a document tool. It formats invoices and reads structured e-invoice files. It does not give tax or legal advice, it is not a Steuerberater, and using it does not create any advisory relationship.

The mandatory fields, legal notices and explanations in this app reflect our reading of German VAT law as of 2026, with sources linked on the explainer page. Law changes, and your situation may not be the standard one. You remain responsible for every invoice you issue and for what you report to the Finanzamt.

What we store

Invoice drafts, seller profiles, your logo and your usage counters are held in your browser's localStorage. Archived e-invoices, including the original XML, are held in IndexedDB in your browser. None of this is transmitted to us — there is no upload endpoint and no invoice database.

Files you drop into the E-Rechnung reader are parsed locally by JavaScript in your own tab. They do not leave your device.

Clearing your browser data deletes all of it permanently, including your archive and your invoice number counter. Export anything you need to keep.

Payments

Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe. When checkout succeeds, Skrolla verifies the session with Stripe and sets a signed, HTTP-only cookie in your browser to record that Pro is active. There are no user accounts and no passwords, so we hold no customer records of our own; your billing details live at Stripe under their privacy policy.

Because Pro lives in a cookie, clearing cookies or switching browser will hide it. Running checkout again with the same email restores it.

Free-tier limits

The free tier's monthly caps are counted in your browser. We say this plainly because a client-side counter is not enforcement: it is a fair-use limit that keeps an honest user honest. If Skrolla is useful enough to work around, it is useful enough to pay nine euros for.
